The big event was greeted with a bright sunny day that aided the Kitchener Knights of Columbus with their 2023 Big Spring Clean-up. It was 8:30 am on Saturday May 6th at the St. Anthony Daniel parking lot when the lineup began and was steady till the afternoon. Contributors left enough unwanted electronic waste to fill a large bin and half another with scrap metal to be recycled.
The event collected $158 in cash donations going to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region. The K of C Maple Syrup was very popular with $128 in sales and the Kitchener and area Girl Guides were busy selling their favorite cookies. Hats off to organizers Dave Hudder and Reinhart Schreiter and his hard-working, dedicated crew. Brother Knight volunteers included Michael Olinski, Hank Helmond, Whit Husk, Jack Nolan, Paul Bagnoral, Ron Clarke, Dave Mintz, Brian and Kevin Schmalz, Gerry Kelly, Brian Hughes and Mario Peretti. The returns from both the e-waste and scrap metal will aid Council 1504 in its charitable endeavors.
