A Grand Evening Enjoyed

by Gary Megaffin

At the helm of the 2018 K of C Clergy BBQ was newly elected Grand Knight Mike Szabo, who acted as a gracious host welcoming seven of Kitchener’s clergy to the annual shindig. Displaying his culinary skills at the BBQ was master chef Brother Brian Schmalz, preparing a wide selection of sirloin steak and chicken breasts, while in the kitchen Brother Brian Hughes organized all the trimmings. Brothers Gerry Kelly and Fernando Melo meticulously put finishing touches together on a sumptuous desert which followed dinner.

Attending the festivities were Fr. Jerome from St. Al’s; Deacon Neil and Fr. Larry from Blessed Sacrament; Fathers Maskel, Brian and Tom from St. Joe’s/St. Anne’s and Fr. Dave from St. Michael’s. Relaxing after their meal, Deputy Grand Knight Gary Megaffin brought inquiring minds up-to-date on the St. Mary’s Chapel restoration, and fielded questions on the current state of local radio, while dodging anecdotal comments coming from the dishwasher in the kitchen. It was a Council 1504 evening that proved to be a big hit with everyone.

A warm evening greeted invited clergy and members of Council 1504 as the Kitchener Knights of Columbus held their annual Clergy BBQ at K of C House. Fr. Tom has everyone listening to one of his humorous stories, as hors d’oeuvres are enjoyed before dinner is served.
